
Cheryl Wills is the author of Die Free: A Heroic Family Tale which traces the roots of her enslaved great-great-great grandfather Sandy Wills who fled his slave plantation and fought with the United States Colored Troops during the American Civil War. She is also a longtime reporter and anchor for Time Warner Cable’s flagship network, New York 1 News.
Cheryl grew up in Rockaway Beach, Queens, and graduated from the S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications at Syracuse University with a bachelor’s degree in Broadcast Journalism. Die Free is her first book released fall 2011. She is committed to raising awareness about the legacy of the United States Colored Troops as the nation marks the sesquicentennial of the Civil War in 2011.
