Topic of discussion: Is Saying Nigger A First Amendment Right?

Some conservative torchbearers continue to fly under the mainstream radar while making racially insensitive comments, though maybe not the outright use of the n-word on a consistent basis
Even the most racially extreme Right Wing Republicans want to believe that they are not racists, and one way they keep their belief in tact is by almost never using the N-word in any context
It takes the n-word to shake us out of our race-denying comas but, America, we have a problem, and it didn't begin when Barack Obama became president
The rationale of racists race baiting on media today seems to be that, since there's a black man leading the nation, it's okay to say almost anything
To presume that the use of a version of the n-word by black comedians is equivalent to the variant being used by conservatives is absolute non-sense
Many people have wondered how Laura Schlessinger, better known as Dr. Laura, remained on the radio after demonstrating incredible racial insensitivity punctuated by a n-word rant last week during an exchange with a black caller
Dr. Laura Schlessinger's interaction with Jade, a self-identified “black” caller to her popular conservative radio show, The Dr. Laura Program, is causing quite a stir
During the exchange, Jade seeks Dr. Laura's advice on how to deal with the increasingly racially insensitive comments and behavior from her white husband's family and friends, including use of the n-word
On the show Schlessinger said, “I don't get it. If anybody without enough melanin says it, it's a horrible thing; but when black people say it, it's affectionate”
Schlessinger said the caller had a “chip on your shoulder” and “too much sensitivity and not enough sense of humor”. She also said, Jade shouldn't “marry out of [her] race” if you “don't have a sense of humor”
She later added that “hypersensitivity” is “being bred by black activists”
Then, Schlessinger issued an apology and said on her website that she was wrong in using the word for what she called an attempt to make a philosophical point
When will Dr. Laura apologize to Jade for telling her she shouldn't marry outside her race? Or, to Blacks for saying we're too stupid to think for ourselves?
Is she apologizing that she hurt a caller who wanted help, but instead demeaned her ?
Dr. Boyce Watkins said, “[Dr. Laura] wasn’t making a good point, nor was it funny or intelligent”
Does Dr. Laura's n-word rant reflect a trend of intolerance?
Schlessinger used the racial epithet 11 times in 5 minutes to purposefully belittle the caller
It’s hard to understand how someone could say that word 11 times and only later realize how wrong it was
Dr. Laura Schlessinger says she's quitting her radio show a week after saying the N-word several times in an on-air
Schlessinger said on “Larry King Live” Tuesday that she “made the decision not to do radio anymore” because she wanted to regain her First Amendment rights and say what's on her mind
While on Larry King Live, Dr. Laura still managed to turn the tables, somehow making herself the victim
Schlessinger said “I want to be able to say what's on my mind and in my heart and what I think is helpful and useful without somebody getting angry, some special interest group deciding this is the time to silence a voice of dissent and attack affiliates and attack sponsors”
As Dr. Laura spoke to King, it was clear that she did not feel remorseful, despite her apology for last week's debacle
On Larry King Live, Schlessinger goes on to say “I'm not retiring, I'm not quitting”. “I feel energized actually. Stronger and freer to say the things that I believe need to be said for people in this country”
Dr. Laura is saying she is quitting now
Will she be like Don Imus before her and return to radio after noise die down?
On her May 2000 radio show Schlessinger made crude remarks about the gay and lesbian (GLBT) communities, when the GLBT responded, she said, the “homosexual activist movement has become the McCarthyism of the 21st century” after she ignited a firestorm that from the gay and lesbian community
Laura Schlessinger used the Jewish Yom Kippur holiday - the Day of Atonement - to apologize to gays and lesbians for “poorly chosen” words she said have been perceived as hate speech
Will she find even greater success in a medium like Fox News that is not as heavily policed
