A Mighty Motivational Machine
The Honorable Omar Neal
Mayor, Tuskegee, Alabama
If motivation is the electrical power that activates the engine of success, then Mayor Omar Neal is the personification of a mighty motivational machine. Arrayed with the God-given ability to mobilize, empower and motivate people from all walks of life to reach their greatest level of excellence, Mayor Neal takes pride in positively impacting the lives of those whom he has the opportunity to reach. To date, that number has surpassed 40,000. His syndicated radio show, “You Got The Power” (a product of his 20-year old company, You Got The Power Enterprises, Inc.) has a potential listening audience of 3,000,000 people throughout the state of Alabama and parts of Tennessee, Georgia, Florida, North Carolina, South Carolina and Virginia. Mayor Neal's latest venture is his new candid, informative and stirring commentary format, "You got the Power Insights" on “Rejoice! Musical Soul Food”. Rejoice is a STELLAR Award winning and CRYSTAL MIC MEDIA Award nominated 24/7 Gospel Radio Network. It is syndicated nationally to 48 radio stations around the country. Neal, Mayor of the City of Tuskegee will deliver twice daily insightful and thought-provoking 2-minute commentaries that will motivate, stimulate and inspire the human spirit. Mayor Omar Neal is also the Founder and CEO of the International Municipal Collaboration.
But considering the mayor’s upbringing, pursuing excellence was not a mere option; it was an expectation. The native son was born on the campus of Tuskegee Institute at John A. Andrews’ Hospital. “I grew up in a historic community that gave me the benefit of seeing successful people up close. The whole mantra of Tuskegee was that of excellence. It was demanded everywhere you went. I can now appreciate the fact that the adults that I witnessed during my upbringing felt it was sacrilegious to be mediocre. Thus, the expectation of excellence was instilled in me. And as I began to experience life for myself, it didn’t take me long to realize and instill in others that since God’s given you His best, why not give Him your best? I adopted the attitude that says, ‘You’re blessed to be a blessing,’” he states.
Mayor Neal also realized that a good education would help lay the foundation for his journey to success. As such, he earned his undergraduate degree in Business Management from Tuskegee Institute (now Tuskegee University) as well as his master’s degree in Public Administration from Troy University. Additionally, Mayor Neal attended the Harvard University Kennedy School of Government’s Executive Education program, and he completed the Delta Leadership Institute, which is sponsored by the Delta Regional Authority in partnership with the College of Continuing Studies at the University of Alabama.
Known as a genuine lover of people and a public servant at heart, Mayor Neal’s career includes him serving as a policeman as well as a juvenile court counselor. He also penned the proposal that established the Youth Aide Division of the Tuskegee Police Department, subsequently serving as the department’s founding director. Prior to being elected mayor, Neal served as a Macon County Commissioner. During his more youthful days, it was not uncommon to find him sharing his musical abilities onstage. In addition to being a part of Tuskegee Institute’s Marching Crimson Pipers Band, he could also be found wowing audiences through singing performances in various talent shows. “I always thought I’d be in front of an audience. Although I was performing then, my life now as a motivator is not that far off. I’m still in a position to generate positive influence, and that’s a wonderful thing to me because it reaffirms my life’s purpose of sharing information with others and allowing them to teach through sharing their own special truths with the world.”
Devoted to family, Mayor Neal is the husband of Debbie and the father of Omari.
